Malware Prevention?

Being recently infected by Malware or something like it...I learned that if you want to close out of something that shows up on your screen, you can hold down CRTL,ALT, Delete(all three keys) not just "x-ing" out. A Task Manager box will pop up. If the program you want to end is not highlighted, highlight it. Click on "End Task." Hopefully, this will help you prevent Malware from getting YOU, too. If anyone can help me prevent this from happening again, I would appreciate any information. FYI...I was browsing popular sites...Google and Bing for Free ClipArt.

  1. I have had such issues with a google redirect virus recently and before with a fake "security" virus! I have killed the virus using rkill, then installed Malwarebytes and now Avast - all are free through Download.com . Malwarebytes usually works by itself to remove and protect your system from bad malware. However with the google redirect, it seemed to be more sophisticated and required being killed as well. I was using Microsoft Security Essentials as internet protection as well but I was having troubles with it and went to Avast. So far, I am very happy with both and all are for free on that website. I felt like I learned to speak in code after finding out all of this information on the web! If you use the site, you can type in those under the search and you will see the freee download to click on. Good luck!

  2. Jenny, Thanks for posting this great information. Two family members have had this "security" virus happen to them and the "Geek Squad" wanted $200.00 to fix it. They would start by installing some additional software! Probably what you said was FREE. This is great news.

  3. It is an expensive fix from outside companies! I have fixed a few other computers as well and this software is free (you can upgrade for a fee but its not needed). Also here is one more tip: If the virus is so bad that you can't do anything, you just need to shut down the computer. Get a copy of Malwarebytes or Avast or even rkill and add to a usb. When you go to reboot the computer, reboot in safe mode. (When its starting up, just hit F8 till you get a DOS like prompt and then arrow up to choose open in Safe mode with networking). Then you should be able safely run rkill and/or install malwarebytes or another type of anti-viral and anti-malware from your usb and run it to remove the virus. You will need to reboot after running these and catching the virus, so it can be fully removed from the computer. Good luck to all!
